Just a quick update
For those of you that were hoping to see continuous updates about my road trip, I am sorry to say that the internet connections we are getting in the campgrounds are terrible. I am trying to post to facebook which is quicker and easier and if you want to follow us there become a facebook friend of me. My email address is bill_everline@yahoo.com. I will be spending some serious time updating the blog next week when we get to Portland and have a good connection. Stay in touch.

On the road Day 1 and 2 and 3

Well, we finally got on the road on Monday morning around 6am. The trip has been going very well. To start, I am sure everyone is wondering how Morgan is holding up spending 10 hours a day in the back seat of the pickup. He had done wonderful. He has slept most of the time we are on the road and his necessity stops have coordinated with both Bruce's and mine.
The first day out we make it to made it to Terra Haute, In and we stayed in a cabin at the KOA campground. Just as we got into the cabin the sky opened up with a gulley washer of a rain with marble sized hail. It must have rain 2 to 3 inches in less than an hour. Day 1 was pretty uneventful with nothing about site seeing. We were on a mission to get to Terra Haute.
We began Day 2 about 3 hours from St. Louis, MO where we wanted to see the St. Louis Gateway Arch. We make it after a few turns and a GPS that did not know how to get us there because of closed local streets, but we made it anyway. The following pictures are of the Arch. It is a pretty facinating structure. We did not get to take the ride in the Arch due to the wait of about 3 hours before we could even get in line.
After leaving the Gateway Park we continued westward to Lawrence, Ks to spend another night in a cabin at the KOA campground. We went out for a wonderful Italian dinner at a little Italian resturant in downtown Lawrence called Bambino's. We had a wonderful waitress named Hannah, who made us feel right at home.
Day 3 April 7th
Today we started on the road about 6:30 and found ourselves on I70 driving into a rain storm and cross winds of 40 to 50 MPH. It was miserable driving until about 11am when we drove out of the rain and into bright sunshine but still had the winds. We entered into Colorado about mid day on some country road that was flat and straight. It seemed that it would never end but we finally came into Pueblo, CO around 3pm to the sight of Pikes Peak in the distance. We are heading to Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods tomorrow. More pics then.

It;s time to hit the road!
Now that all the planning and making reservations is done, it is time to get on the road. Bruce, Morgan and I will be hitting the road Monday morning about 6am with a destination of Terra Haute, In. by dinner time. We have reservations across the country at KOA Campgrounds, staying in cabins each night. We are both loosing sleep with getting everything together, not to forget those important things such as chargers for cell phones and cameras.
We will try to post our progress everyday, so check back and we should have some interesting pics and details of our adventure as we work our way to Portland.
